Total 125 BNP leaders have announced their participation in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections under the banner of the 'Swatantra Ganatantra Mancha,' led by current and former BNP leaders.

BNP central executive committee member and Supreme Court lawyer Khandaker Ahsan Habib made this announcement at a press conference at Sky City Hotel Lounge in Malibagh area of the capital on Wednesday (November 15) afternoon.

Before this, he read a written statement and declared his candidacy for the Tangail-5 seat. Barrister AKM Fakhrul Islam, another member of the BNP executive committee, was also present and announced his candidacy for the Jhalkathi-2 seat. Swapan Sarkar, a former trustee of the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust from 2001-04, declared his candidacy for the Rajbari-1 seat. Monirul Islam Mintu, the former Vice President of Chhatra Dal Central and Tangail Sadat College, announced his candidacy for the Tangail-8 seat.

In a written statement, Khandker Ahsan Habib demanded the release of Khaleda Zia, but in response to media questions, he demanded the release of BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Responding to a question about whether declaring participation in the elections, despite being a BNP leader, violates the organization's discipline, he said, "I do not know if there is any such directive in the constitution of BNP. They also said that they will not form an alliance or partner with any registered party even if they participate in the elections."
