A CNG-run autorickshaw caught on fire when miscreants hurled a crude bomb in Old Dhaka this morning as the 48-hour countrywide hartal called by the BNP, Jamaat and likeminded opposition parties, is underway.
The cocktail attack happened in front of ‘One Star Hotel’ on Kazi Alauddin Road in Old Dhaka around 8:30 am on Sunday (19 November), confirmed Talha Bin Zashim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (media cell).
Responding to the call, firefighters from Siddique Bazar Fire Station rushed to the spot to douse the fire, he said.
After the fifth spell of countrywide blockade ended on Friday morning, BNP, Jamaat, and likeminded opposition parties called the 48-hour hartal after rejecting the polls schedule announced on November 15.
The shutdown, which began at 6 am today, will end at 6am on Tuesday, and is meant to mount pressure on the government to step down, hand over power to a neutral government, and release all the arrested BNP leaders and activists, including its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
