Dhaka bound ‘Titas’ train derailed in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area following a collision with a crane working on the Dhaka Elevated expressway project. The incident took place at around 5pm on Thursday (7 December). Dhaka’s rail link with most of the country is suspended following the incident.
The information was confirmed by Khairul Kabir, divisional transport officer (Dhaka Division). They have already started rescue operations, he stated. Khairul Kabir said the crane was on the rail tracks even though the gate at the nearby Tejgaon level crossing was lowered. The locomotive was derailed after it hit the crane.
Around 5 pm, the locomotive of the Dhaka-bound Titas commuter train collided with a crane working on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway project, told Sekendar Ali, sub-inspector of Dhaka Railway Police Station. The injured were rushed to hospitals, he said, but could not confirm the number of injured.
When Contacted, AHM Akhtar, project director of Dhaka Elevated Expressway, said he just came to know of the incident. "But I have not gotten details yet. I will visit the spot to get the details."
