The Election Commission has fined Awami League election candidates from Cumilla-6, AKM Bahauddin Bahar, and Barguna-1, Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu, a total of TK 1.5 lakh for violating the electoral code of conduct. AKM Bahauddin Bahar was fined with Tk 1 lakh while Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu was fined TK 50,000.
The commission fined them following two separate hearings at the EC office on Wednesday (27 December) afternoon.
EC summoned the two ruling-party candidates to explain allegations that they violated the electoral code of conduct.
Following the hearing, EC additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath informed that both candidates would have to pay their fines within three days from the hearing.
