The campaign for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad(JS) elections ended with violations of the code of conduct and violence. Now the wait is only two days. The much awaited polls on January 7.
After receiving the symbols on December 18, the candidates officially started campaigning. And on the last day, Thursday, rival candidates conducted vigorous campaigning across the country. Clashes also occurred between the supporters of the candidates at different places on this day. So far three people have died in the election conflict.
Among them, a worker of a boat candidate named Dalim Sarkar was killed in the firing incident at the election camp of Awami League in Munshiganj Sadar on Wednesday late night. In the afternoon of the same day, a person was killed in a clash between Awami League and independent candidate supporters during election campaigning in Pirojpur's Mathbaria.
Following the schedule announced by the Election Commission (EC), the election campaign started on December 18 with the allotment of symbols. The EC will not allow any kind of gatherings, processions and campaigns after 8 am on Friday (January 5), the scheduled end of the campaign.
Polling will be held in 299 parliamentary constituencies from 8 am to 4 pm on Sunday, a day after the election campaign ends. The election of Naogaon-2 constituency has been postponed due to the death of a candidate.
The total number of voters in this election is 11 crore 96 lakh. Among them there are 1 crore 54 lakh new voters. Among the total voters, male voters are 6 crore 76 lakh and female voters are 5 crore 89 lakh. And there are 849 transgender voters.
