The postponed election to the Naogaon-2 (Patnitala-Dhamuirhat) constituency will be held on February 12.
The Election Commission postponed the voting to the constituency on December 29 after the death of independent candidate Aminul Huq who was contesting with the symbol 'Eagle' in the elections, according to a gazette notification to this end was issued from the EC on Monday (8 January).
According to a directive from the EC, if any valid candidate vying for the upcoming 12th parliamentary election dies, the election proceedings of the respective constituency must be cancelled as per the provisions of Article 91A and Article 91E of the Representation of the People Order, 1972.
The last date for submission of the nomination paper on January 17, nomination papers scrutiny on January 18, symbol distribution on January 26 and vote will be held on February 12, according to the polls schedule.
New aspirants will be able to collect nomination papers till January 17, scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on January 18, the last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 25 and symbol distribution on January 26.
Valid candidates for the seat would not need to collect nomination papers.
