The new cabinet is set to take oath at the Bangabhaban on Thursday (11 January), following the recently held 12th parliamentary election on Sunday (7 January). Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain said this on Tuesday (9 January).

"The new cabinet will be sworn in at the Bangabhaban at 7pm on Thursday," said the secretary during a press briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

However, he did not reveal the exact number of MPs who will serve as ministers or the cabinet's makeup.

Law Minister Anisul Huq stated at a press briefing that the independent candidates who won the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) votes on January 7 will have a role in the creation of the opposition party in parliament.

"Opposition in the parliament will be decided depending on how the independent candidates position themselves. Elected independent candidates can convene a caucus. If the independents decide to act separately, then Jatiyo Party will become the opposition," Anisul Huq said.

In the meantime, the swearing-in ceremony of the elected members of the 12th Parliament will be held on Wednesday (10 January).

According to sources at the Speaker's office, the Parliament Secretariat is making preparations for the oath-taking ceremony.
