The ruling Awami League, which won the 12th parliamentary election on January 7, will take oath as the new government at 7:00pm on Thursday (Jan 11).
Meanwhile, candidates who emerged victorious in the January 7 election will take oath of office on Wednesday (Jan 10), Awami League sources said.
Parliament Secretariat has already begun preparations to welcome the new batch of lawmakers.
The Election Commission (EC) will publish the list newly-elected members of the 12th Parliament in the form of a gazette notification by Tuesday. According to the law, the new members have to take the oath within three days after the gazette’s publication.
The session has to be called within 30 days. However, there is no time obligation regarding the publication of the gazette.
This will be the Awami League's fourth consecutive term and fifth overall under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
