A total of seven ministers and seven state ministers were drafted into the new cabinet for the first time as members of the cabinet took oath in the evening on Thursday under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Among the fresh faces, seven individuals have been appointed as full ministers including Md. Abdus Shaheed to the Ministry of Agriculture, R A M Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, Md. Abdur Rahman to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Abdus Salam to the Ministry of Planning, Md. Jillul Hakim to the Ministry of Railways, Nazmul Hasan to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Dr Samanta Lal Sen to the Ministry of Health.
Among the state ministers, Simin Hossain Rimi has been appointed to Women and Children Affairs, Mohammad Ali Arafat to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Mohibbur Rahman to Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Kujendra Lal Tripura to Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Rumana Ali to Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury to Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and Ahsanul Islam to Ministry of Commerce for the first time.
Notably, Abdus Shahid earlier served as the Chief Whip of the ruling party in the 9th Parliament. This time he has been elected Member of Parliament from Moulvibazar-4 Constituency for the seventh time.
Former Chhatra League leader R A M Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury was once an officer of the administration cadre. He once served as the private secretary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the 1996 government. Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury became the first member of parliament by winning this seat as an Awami League candidate in the 2011 by-election.
The former general secretary of the Chhatra League Abdur Rahman is currently serving as a member of the presidium of Awami League. He has been elected Member of Parliament from Faridpur-1 Constituency in the second round. He previously served as the organizing secretary of the Awami League.
Former army officer Abdus Salam was also a member of parliament earlier. Major General (Retd.) Salam has been elected Member of Parliament for the second term from Mymensingh-9 Constituency.
Md. Jillul Hakim has been in charge of Rajbari district Awami League president for more than a decade and a half. He has been elected as a Member of Parliament from Rajbari-2 Constituency in the fifth term.
Late President Zillur Rahman's son Nazmul Hasan is the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). He is a Member of Parliament elected from Kishoreganj-6 Constituency going to be part of the new cabinet.
Samanta Lal Sen, who is a technocrat quota cabinet member, is a familiar face to the countrymen as a doctor. This doctor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital became known when he treated people who were burned by petrol bombs before and after the 2014 11th National Parliament elections in the political unrest across the country.
Simin Hossain Rimi, who went on to become the state minister, is the daughter of Tajuddin Ahmed, the first Prime Minister of independent Bangladesh. She has been elected Member of Parliament from her constituency Gazipur-4 several times.
Mohammad Ali Arafat was involved in various intellectual activities for the Awami League for years. He became the executive member of the Central Committee of Awami League for the first time in December 2022.
Rumana Ali is the daughter of the late Awami League leader Rahmat Ali of Gazipur-3. She was earlier a Member of Parliament for the reserved women's seat.
Ahsanul Islam is the son of late Awami League leader Haji Maqbul Hossain. He has been elected Member of Parliament for the second term from Tangail-6 Constituency.
Kujendra Lal Tripura has been elected Member of Parliament from Khagrachari for the third term. Before the first parliamentary elections in 2014.
Md. Mohibbur Rahman has been elected Member of Parliament from Patuakhali-4 (Kalapara-Rangabali) Constituency in the second round.
Shafikur Rahman Chowdhury is currently the Sylhet District Awami League President. He was first elected Member of Parliament in 2008 from Sylhet-2 (Bishwanath and Osmaninagar) Constituency. This time he is coming to parliament from the same seat for the second time.
