The High Court (HC) on Tuesday (16 January) issued a rule asking why the inaction of the authorities in removing local vehicles, haat-bazars and other illegal structures from the highways of the country to ensure the safe movement of citizens, will not be declared illegal.
A High Court Division Bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice M. Atabullah passed the order.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and others concerned have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
On January 14, lawyer SM Badrul Islam filed the writ in the public interest.
