Due to a shortage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Moheshkhali terminal, power generation has also declined, resulting in nationwide load-shedding in many regions on Saturday (20 January).
According to data from the Bangladesh Power Grid Company, the country saw up to 700MW of load-shedding as of the evening.
The Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources stated on Facebook that power generation was limited owing to an interruption in LNG supplies from the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Moheshkhali.
"The ministry is trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible," according to the statement.
Some communities may experience power outages as a result of the incident.
"We sincerely apologise for the temporary inconvenience to our valued customers," the company said.
According to PGCB data, at roughly 2pm today, the country produced approximately 8,916MW of power versus a demand of approximately 9,640MW.
Gas flow from the FSRU has resumed, but has yet to reach the planned level, according to Petrobangla authorities.
