The Special Crisis Response Team (CRT) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) stands prepared to swiftly address any disaster, sudden accident, violence, anarchy, conflict, or disaster situation. With comprehensive training and preparations already concluded, the team is fully equipped to tackle various challenging scenarios. Comprising approximately 200 personnel, including officers and members, the CRT is poised to become a formidable force akin to the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit. Similar CRTs have previously been established in Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Sylhet, further bolstering the nation's capacity to respond effectively to crises.

Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akhtar of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police emphasised that members of the Crisis Response Team have undergone specialised training and have been equipped with advanced tools and gear. He highlighted the team's role in enhancing the effectiveness of the national emergency service 999, stating that they will directly engage in field operations to safeguard lives and ensure public safety during various emergencies and accidents.

According to reliable sources, the CRT will act swiftly in response to any sudden accidents, chaos, or calamities. They will also take the lead in managing public order during such situations. Police reserve members will be deployed as the initial response team in conflicts, taking control of the situation and utilising measures such as tear gas and rubber bullets as necessary. Additionally, support from Detective Branch (DB) members and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be available if required. The 200 highly trained personnel comprising the CRT have undergone intensive commando training, positioning them as a frontline force ready to bring any situation under control effectively.

Joint Commissioner of DMP, Biplab Kumar Sarkar, highlighted that the police force often encounters diverse challenges, but remains resilient in managing them effectively. He affirmed that the CRT unit is being established akin to other units within DMP, comprising a skilled and agile team capable of swiftly adapting to various situations. Regardless of the nature of the incident, whether it be a terrorist attack or any other crisis, the CRT is well-prepared to handle it professionally and bring the situation under control. Moreover, in the event of a major incident like a terrorist attack, they will collaborate seamlessly with the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit to ensure a coordinated response.

He further emphasised that the scope of the CRT's operations will extend beyond the capital city, as they will respond to incidents occurring in the vicinity of Dhaka as well. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) of DMP, Mahid Uddin, stated that 200 policemen have been trained initially. He assured that the team is fully prepared to respond promptly to major fire accidents or crises anywhere in the country. Although the team has not been officially introduced yet, an official announcement from DMP regarding the CRT is imminent.

He elaborated on the team's responsibilities, stating that their primary objective is to swiftly address any conflict situation that arises. For instance, in the event of a major accident occurring in areas like Bangabazar or Newmarket, the CRT will mobilise rapidly to provide assistance. By effectively managing challenging situations, the team aims to enhance public confidence in the police force. Additionally, in accordance with the Police Regulations for Bengali Mobilisation Contingent, the CRT is mandated to constitute 10-20 percent of the total police force, ensuring readiness to handle emergency situations effectively.
