Former Planning Minister and Awami League MP Abdul Mannan on Wednesday said there is no division between development and democracy and through voting people have proved that they want both.
“This unnecessary debate (development or democracy) is over,” he said while participating in the discussion of the thanksgiving motion on the President's speech in Parliament.
He claimed that a faction had started an unnecessary debate on development and democracy.
“There is no division between these two. They tried to do it, the people of Bangladesh have proved that they want both by voting Awami League,” he said.
But the former minister said that people want rapid development.
“Because they hope for a better life. In the last 15 years they have received this touch of development.”
He thinks this pointless debate is over forever.
Ruling party MP Shajahan Khan said that those who said that they will overthrow Sheikh Hasina’s government have been defeated.
“They said that Sheikh Hasina’s government is corrupting by talking about development, they could not prove any corruption. Democracy cannot be expected from the BNP.”
Independent lawmaker elected from Kishoreganj Sohrab Uddin said that the country is going very well.
However, he said that there are many problems still there. “We Need a solution,” he said.
He pointed that main reason for the dollar crisis is smuggling of thousands of crores of Taka from the country.
“Money laundering must be stopped,” he said.
The independent MP said that the main reason behind money laundering is that there is a lot of money in the country, but there is no valid scope to show that money.
“It is important to give this opportunity. This opportunity was given three years ago.”
“If you dig out the hidden information, it will be seen that the defaulted debt is Tk 6 lakh crore.”
He said that the Bangladesh Bank has announced a new roadmap. He hopes that its implementation will reduce the vulnerability.
