Cases remain pending as some people benefit from it: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on Friday (16 February) said that the traditional problem of our court's huge load of cases continues because some people take it as a means of benefit. And the cases remaining pending in the courts for their purpose.

He was speaking about this at the launch of his book "Bichar O Prashason Bhitor Theke Dekha", the former law secretary also said there were cases that have been pending for 30 or even years.

Publisher of the book Pathak Samabesh organized the program at their showroom in the capital.

There is a backlog of around 42 lakh cases in courts across the country, including the Appellate and High Court divisions of the Supreme Court, causing immeasurable suffering for the litigants.

"There is no research on why so many cases are pending. This backlog is beneficiary for many, so none comes forward to advise on how to reduce the backlog," Habibul said.

As he is a prominent law based academic person and served the law sector for many years so things are all known to him. He mentioned his journey too and described what he have learned throughout his journey.

At that time he describes the background story and some related information regarding his newly published book.
He became CEC in February 2022.

Renowned poet and Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Nurul Huda presided over the book-launching program.
