Poribesh Bachao Andolan (POBA) on Tuesday (5 March) demanded the authorities concerned to take measures to ensure the selling of chemical, poison and adulteration-free iftar items and food during the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking at a press conference here today, the POBA leaders alleged that delicious iftar items are being prepared every year using used oils of motor vehicles, rail-engines, electric transformers and industries to prepare food items during Ramadan, which poses a serious threat to the public health.

They urged the concerned authorities to continue the mobile court against the dishonest businessmen who are using chemicals in food items and to implement the Consumer Rights Protection Act, of 2009, Food Safety Act, of 2013, and Formalin Control Act, of 2015.

They said that the government has enacted different acts to ensure such poisonous and adulterated foods. But, a group of dishonest businessmen are showing thumbs to the acts and making food items by mixing different chemicals.

Urging the concerned authorities to create public awareness, the PABA leaders demanded proper implementation of the Food Safety Act.

POBA chairman Abu Naser Khan and Mezbahuddin Ahmed, among others, spoke at the press conference held at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro Bhaban in the city's Bangla motors area.
