New Market police arrest suspect for murder in Dhaka

New Market thana police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested a suspect involving a murder in the capital. 

Based on secret information, a team of New Market Police Station conducted a raid at Eskaton Road of Moghbazar area on Tuesday (12 March) afternoon and arrested Md Hossain.

On Sunday, a team of New Market Police station recovered the body of an unidentified man from the footpath opposite to Rahman & Co. Filling Station on the New Elephant Road. Later the deceased was identified as Mamun alias Kata Mamun alias 'Blade' Mamun.

For the past three years, Mamun has been living as a homeless person in the Elephant Road area. Despite many searches in the surrounding area, no relatives were found.

A case was filed with New Market police station on the same day accusing unidentified people.

But Mamun was arrested by conducting a special operation in the Eskaton area of Moghbazar on Tuesday afternoon.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Newmarket police station Md. Aminul Islam said Sub-Inspector (SI) Pavel Ahmed has been given the task of investigating the case.

After getting the investigation task, the investigation officer of the case SI Pavel collected the CCTV footage of the petrol pump from the opposite side of the site from where the body was found.

He reviewed the footage that shows that at around 5:19 am on the day of the incident, a person walked from Bata crossing towards Kataban crossing and hit the victim Mamun multiple times with a heavy object before fleeing Bata crossing area towards Hatirpul by a rickshaw.

Based on the information from the CCTV footage and secret information, a special drive was carried out in the Eskaton road area on Tuesday afternoon and arrested the alleged killer.
