Train communication between Dhaka and Chattogram remained suspended since Sunday (17 March) noon as nine bogies of a train derailed near Tejer Bazar in Nangalkot upazila of Cumilla district.
Jashim Uddin, assistant director (operation) of Bangladesh Railway said the Jamalpur-bound ‘Bijoy Express’ train from Chattogram veered off the tracks in the area after crossing Gunoboti rail station around 1:45 pm as the rail tracks bent due to hot weather, halting train movement on Dhaka-Chattogram route.
At least 20 people were slightly injured during the derailment, said witnesses.
Three relief trains from Pahartoli, Laksham and Akhaura left for the spot to salvage the derailed bogies.
