Advancing women’s rights of access to information in Bangladesh project

On Monday (1 April) from 10 am, The Carter Center with the financial support of USAID organized training for 30 employees of Bangladesh Betar on Right to Information and Gender under the " Advancing Women's Rights of Access to Information in Bangladesh Project. Mr. Rabindra Sri Barua, Director General, Bangladesh Betar was present as the chief guest, Md Salahuddin, Additional Director (Programs), Bangladesh Betar and USAID Office Director Alena Tansey were present as Special Guest at the event.

Chief guest Rabindra Sri Barua, Director General, Bangladesh Betar said that wireless is the easiest medium to convey the right to information to common people throughout Bangladesh. He suggested Bangladesh Betar, The Carter Center and USAID jointly can organize different outdoor events and implement info entertainment activities such as songs, jingles and those could be conducted using the local dialect to promote RTI.

Alena Tansey said in her speech that the citizens of Bangladesh can exercise their rights through Right to Information act 2009. USAID is very proud to work through the Advancing Women's Rights of Access to Information in Bangladesh Project in collaboration with The Carter Center. She requested the employees of Bangladesh Betar for their commitment to ensure the right to information for Bangladeshi people.

Chief of Party of The Carter Center Bangladesh Ms. Sumana Sultana Mahmud presented the goals and objectives of the project, and she highlighted the importance of RTI in establishing the rights of minorities and marginalized people in the society. She said, The Carter Center will implement this project in 10 Districts in Bangladesh.
