The Shawwal moon was not seen in the Bangladesh sky this evening. Eid-up-Fitr will be celebrated in Bangladesh on Thursday, April 11.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque premises in Dhaka on Tuesday (9 April) evening. The meeting was presided over by Religious Affairs Minister Faridul Haque Khan.
During the meeting, various authorities including district administrations, Islamic Foundation headquarters, divisional and district offices, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization reported on the sighting of the crescent moon. It was concluded that as of today, the evening of April 9, 2024, corresponding to 29 Ramadan 1445 Hijri, no sighting of the crescent moon for the Shawwal month was reported in the sky over Bangladesh.
Religious Affairs Secretary Md A Hamid Jamaddar, Director General (Additional Secretary) of Islamic Foundation Dr Md Bashirul Alam, Joint Secretary of the Cabinet Division Md Saiful Islam Bhuyan, among others, attended the meeting.
