Three people died by lightning strikes in Chauddagram of Cumilla and Chhagalnaiya of Feni on Sunday (19 May).
The deceased in Cumilla is Anwarul Haque, 28, a day labourer from Barogoria village in Aditmari Upazila of Lalmonirhat and the son of Azizur Rahman. Meanwhile, another labourer named Mojibur Rahman was injured at the same location.
Injured Mojibur Rahman said, "We were working on cultivating land in Lonishwar village. Around noon, the sky became overcast and lightning struck. Anwarul Haque died on the spot."
Locals rescued them and took them to the Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex.
Dr. Abul Hasem, doctor on duty of Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex, stated that two people were taken to the hospital due to lightning strikes. Among them, Anwarul Haque died in the incident.
In Feni, the deceased youths were identified as Mahadi Hasan, 17, son of Atiqur Rahman Majumdar from Uttor Kuhuma village of Chhagalnaiya and Shahin Mahmud Ovi, 15, son of Fazlul Karim of Dakshin Langal Mora village of the same upazila. They were died by lightning while returning home with cattle from the field on Sunday afternoon.
Mahtab Uddin Majumdar, local Union Parishad member, After their bodies were found in the field due to the lightning strike, locals rescued them and took them to Chhagalnaiya and then to Feni Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Hasan Imam, officer-in-charge of Chhagalnaiya Police Station, confirmed the death of two youths due to a lightning strike.
