Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on June 17 (Monday) as the crescent moon of the Arabic month of Zilhaj was sighted in the sky of Bangladesh.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque premises in Dhaka this evening.
The meeting was presided over by Religious Affairs Minister Faridul Haque Khan.
During the meeting, various authorities including district administrations, Islamic Foundation headquarters, divisional and district offices, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization reported on the sighting of the crescent moon.
Religious Affairs Secretary Md A Hamid Jamaddar, Director General (Additional Secretary) of Islamic Foundation Dr Md Bashirul Alam, Muhammad Kawsar Ahmed, additional secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, among others, attended the meeting.
