Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Sunday (9 May) predicted that the ongoing mild heat wave is likely to continue in five places of the country in the next 24 hours from 9 am today.
"Mild heat wave is sweeping over Khulna and Barisal divisions and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, and Madaripur and it may continue. Due to excessive moisture content, the discomfort may persist," said a BMD weather bulletin issued this morning.
The weather may remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the bulletin said.
"Light to moderate rain thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places of Rangpur Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places of Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions," it added.
The country's maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 38.4 degrees Celsius at Jashore while today's minimum temperature was recorded at 18.0 degrees Celsius at Chapainawabganj.
Rainfall for the last 24 hours commencing at 6 am today was recorded at 257mm at Sylhet.
The sun sets at 6:45 pm today and rises at 5:10 am tomorrow in the capital.
