The Dhaka Bypass Expressway Development Company Limited (DBEDC), under Sichuan Road and Bridge (Group) Co., Ltd., successfully held a promotional conference for semi-rigid pavement technology at the Radisson Hotel in Dhaka on Wednesday (July 3).
The event was attended by 150 participants, including the chief guest, A B M Amin Ullah Nuri, Secretary of the Road Transport and Highways Division; the chief patron, Liu Xiaobo, General Manager of Sichuan Road and Bridge (Group) Co., Ltd.; and special guests Engr. Syed Moinul Hasan, Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department; Engr. Md. Ali Akhtar Hossain, Chief Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department; Md. Abul Bashar, Director General of the Public Private Partnership Authority; and the President of the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh. Representatives from various Chinese and Bangladeshi institutions, enterprises, and media were also present.
At the conference, DBEDC provided a comprehensive introduction to semi-rigid pavement technology, covering design concepts, construction specifications, quality standards, material selection, and progress.
All chief and special guests delivered speeches at the event. A B M Amin Ullah Nuri expressed gratitude to Sichuan Road and Bridge (Group) Co., Ltd. for introducing this technology, noting that it is well-suited to the conditions in Bangladesh. He highlighted that using fine sand from Bangladeshi riverbeds for the pavement structure layer addresses issues such as poor load-bearing capacity, poor stability, and severe damage to flexible pavements in Bangladesh. Additionally, it reduces the country's dependence on imported materials like crushed stone for road construction, lowers construction costs, and mitigates environmental damage caused by extensive brick use.
The successful application of semi-rigid pavement technology on the Dhaka Bypass Road offers a sustainable development solution that benefits soil and water conservation and environmental protection. It also provides a new option for future road construction in Bangladesh. The Road Transport and Highways Division will continue to promote the widespread use of this new technology in other projects.
Furthermore, Nuri welcomed more Chinese companies to invest in Bangladesh and supported the introduction of additional new technologies suited to the country's conditions and contributing to its sustainable development.
The programme was attended by several high officials from RHD and LGED. The event was presided over by Xiao Zhimming, CEO and Director of Dhaka Bypass Expressway Development Company Limited.
Local shareholder and Managing Director of SEL (Shamim Enterprise Limited), Aminul Haque Shamim, and Managing Director of UDC Construction Limited, Engineer Kalam Hossain, were also present. Md. Shafiqul Islam Alkand, COO, anchored the event.
