At least 6 killed in quota protest clashes

At least six people including several students have been killed and scores injured in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rangpur as student-opposing quotas in government jobs clash with activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League and police.

Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets and blocked highways in Dhaka and other districts on Tuesday (July 16)

Meanwhile, the students’ demand for reforming the quota system has intensified across the country.

Universities, including Dhaka, Chattogram, and Begum Rokeya, have turned into battlegrounds.

A student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur was killed in a clash between police and quota reform protesters.

Three people, including a student, have been killed during a clash between Chhatra League activists and supporters of quota reform and Chhatra Dal in Chattogram.

A young man also died after being assaulted near Dhaka College during the ongoing quota reform movement. Meanwhile, another young man, injured during a clash near the City College, has also died.

The government has deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in five districts, including Dhaka, amid the deteriorating situation over the quota reform movement.
