The Education Research and Development Forum of Bangladesh (ERDFB) condemned the unrespectable killing, assault and torture of students by distorting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's remark and politicising the 'quota' movement.

ERDFB President Prof Dr Sazzad Hossain, in a statement on Wednesday, said that the teachers of the university are shocked by the death of students.

“The agitators are our children, the children of this country. No matter what the controversy, movement and issue, not a single death is desirable. And the death of a university student is a loss not only for a family but also for the country,” he said.

Five teachers of a proctored body at Dhaka University were injured in the attack by the quota reform activists. Expressing concern over the incident, Prof Sazzad also said that the pride of our teachers is our students and the relationship between teachers and students is very good. “ERDFB does not believe that this heinous attack on teachers could be the work of any student,” he said.

The statement mentioned that we have a history of glorious student movement. In the language movement of 1952, the language of our mouth, mother's language, Bengali language was written with students' blood.

The Quota reform is logical – neither the government nor the Chhatra League has denied it. So why is this bleeding? Why this brutal attack? Why are students victimized by the conspiracy of others?

ERDFB feels that the no-confidence motion against Bangabandhukanya is nothing but a new conspiracy while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is sympathetic to any logical demand.

ERDFB demanded a proper investigation into the murder of the students killed in the quota movement. Prof Sazzad hopes that the students will not respond to any provocation and immediately shun the path of violence and concentrate on taking Bangladesh forward through their intellectual and innovative energy.
