Those who were involved in the countrywide violence will face justice, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on Wednesday (24 July).

“All involved in the nationwide violence and mayhem will be identified, and action will be taken against them following the merit of cases being filed every day,” he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.

Situation will normalize within two-three days, the home minister hoped.

Three policemen, identified as Masud Pervez Reza Bhuiya, Gias Uddin, Muktadir, and an Ansar personnel identified as Jewel were killed during the violence, he added.

However, the total death toll could not be known immediately, the minister said.

“Law enforcers were targeted just because they were working to ensure security in the country. Besides, the 12-year-old son of a policeman was also tortured,” said the home minister.

"The anti-Liberation War forces, Jamaat and BNP," carried out the attacks and using loudspeakers they also asked people to go against security forces, he said.

Saying that the government does not want to continue the curfew, the home minister said it was imposed due to the attacks carried out on police stations and key state-owned establishments. “Curfew will be withdrawn as soon as possible,” he said.
