Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (27 July), sought cooperation from Japan for quick reopening of the Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations of metro rail, which were severely damaged by miscreants during the recent nationwide violence.
She made the call when Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Iwama Kiminori called on her at her official residence Ganabhaban.
PM’s press secretary M Nayeemul Islam Khan briefed the reporters after the call on.
He quoted the prime minister as saying that miscreants attacked the establishments that are used widely for the welfare and convenience of the mass people.
“Those which proved very much useful for the mass people were the targets of the attackers. This is very much heartbreaking for me,” she said.
She mentioned that the government in the last 15 years constructed all these establishments after tireless efforts.
The Japanese ambassador said that the constitution of metro rail involved ‘sweat and tears’ of many Bangladeshi and Japanese workers.
“I saw that some handfull of people damaged the fundamental structures of the metro rail (in Mirpur-10 and Kazipara) that was beneficial for a huge number of mass people,” he said.
He also said that they would assessed the damage to the metro rail, identify the areas of cooperation and the way to cooperate.
He mentioned that law and order situation has been improved after the deployment of the military.
Talking about the upcoming EPA Negotiation on Public Private Economic Dialogue in Tokyo in the later half of next month, it would be helpful if the situation becomes normal before that meeting.“Then it would be useful to give all kinds of help and cooperation,” he said.
The Japanese envoy expressed sympathy for the casualties of the unrest. PM’s Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman and Ambassador at Large M Ziauddin, among others, were present.
