Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court granted a four-day remand on seven people including BNP Chairperson's special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas found involved attack on BTV building.
On Monday (July 29), CMM court Magistrate Md Rashidul Alam issued the remand order.
Eagerly, The other accused on remand are BNP Treasurer M Rashiduzzaman Millat, Dhaka Metropolitan South Convenor Rafiqul Alam Majnu, North Convenor Saiful Alam Nirab, 12-party coalition coordinator Syed Ehsanul Huda, Mohiuddin Hriday, and Tariqul Islam.
Moreover, They had previously been remanded in another case. On Monday, Detective Police Inspector Yasin Sikdar, the investigating officer, requested a seven-day remand for them in this case. Several defense lawyers applied for bail and the cancellation of the remand. After the hearing, the judge granted a four-day remand.
Previously On July 18, the BTV Rampura office was being attacked. The next day, Mahfuza Akhtar, General Manager of BTV Dhaka Center, filed a case at Rampura Police Station. The case included charges under Section 15(3) of the Special Powers Act of 1974 and various sections of the Penal Code.
According to the plaintiff, on July 18 at around 11:30 AM, during a complete shutdown program under the banner of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, students gathered on the road in front of Rampura Traffic Police Box and the BTV building with banners. Police persuaded them to move away.
Shortly after, around three to four thousand unidentified activists, allegedly acting on the instructions and active participation of top BNP and Jamaat-Shibir leaders, started chanting anti-government slogans.
The accused, ignoring the resistance from the on-duty police and Ansar members, illegally broke into the BTV building through its four main gates. They caused extensive damage, set fires, and looted the building to create widespread panic.
However, They searched for various BTV officials by name and designation, threatening them with death. They aimed to topple the elected democratic government through organized terrorist activities, damaging government property inside the 'A' category KPI-registered Bangladesh Television. The estimated damage is around 50 crore takas. Eventually, police and BGB brought the situation under control around 9 PM.
