Security has been tightened in Dhaka after the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification banning Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman informed the media on Thursday (1 August) that the DMP is prepared to handle any potential acts of terrorism or violence in response to the ban.
He mentioned that police checkpoints have been set up at various points in the capital. Additionally, security has been reinforced at key installations across Dhaka.
Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs' Public Security Division issued a notification banning Jamaat-e-Islami, Shibir, and their affiliated organizations under the executive order of the government, in accordance with Section 18(1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
