Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md Abdur Rahman Friday (2 August), said no one can go to power through arson terrorist and anarchy.
"No one can go to power through arson and anarchy. Election is the only way to change power. If you want to go to power, you have to participate in the next election in 2029," he said.
The minister said these while addressing a special extended meeting of Boalmari Upazila unit of Awami League (AL) in the district as the chief guest.
No one can come to power by burning metro rail, setting fire to Padma Bridge and Setu Bhaban and destroying government buildings, he said Rahman, adding that the defeated forces of ’71 wanted to seize power in a new way using the innocent students of the country.
Rahman, also AL Presidium Member, said that in 2018, following the demands of the students, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina canceled the quota system in government jobs.
Later, when the High Court quashed the order, the government appealed to the Appellate Division. After that, the government took the initiative to bring forward the date of hearing and the Appellate Division did that and reformed the quota system through a hearing as per the demands of the students," he said.
It was possible to do this quickly due to the sincerity of the government, he said, adding that those who were agitating should rather celebrate this verdict as they got more than what they demanded.
With Boalmari Upazila unit of AL President and Upazila Chairman M Mosharraf Hossain in the chair, the meeting was attended, among others, by District AL Vice President Asaduzzaman Mintu, Upazila AL Vice President Abul Kalam Azad and Municipal AL Convener and Mayor Salim Reza Lipon.
Upazila AL General Secretary Shahjahan Mirdah Pikul moderated the meeting.
