In response to escalating violence and a nationwide strike stemming from the anti-quota movement, the government has imposed an indefinite curfew starting from 6 PM today.
The Ministry of Home Affairs' Senior Information Officer Sharif Mahmud Apu confirmed the decision in a press release on Sunday, August 4th.
The press release stated that curfew would be enforced in Dhaka Metropolitan area and all divisional headquarters, city corporations, municipalities, industrial zones, district headquarters, and upazila headquarters starting from 6 PM today, until further notice.
The government had previously imposed a curfew on July 19th, following unrest related to the quota reform movement. The curfew was gradually relaxed in different districts. However, on Saturday, August 3rd, protesters at the Central Shaheed Minar called for the government's resignation as part of their one-point demand and announced a nationwide non-cooperation movement starting today.
