In the wake of the student movement against discrimination, Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan has resigned, leading to the appointment of Ashfaq-ul-Islam as the Acting Chief Justice.
The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Law at around 2:30 PM on Saturday (August 10).
Ashfaq-ul-Islam is currently serving as a judge in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, five other judges of the Appellate Division have also announced their resignations. The resigning judges are Justice M. Enayetur Rahim, Justice Abu Jafar Siddique, Justice Jahangir Hossain, Justice Md. Shahinur Islam, and Justice Kashefa Hossain.
