President Mohammad Shahabuddin has appointed Syed Refaat Ahmed as the 25th Chief Justice of the country. The President made the appointment in accordance with Article 95 of the Constitution.
This information was revealed on the night of Saturday, August 10. The President will administer the oath to him at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban at 10:30 am on Sunday, August 11.
The Ministry of Law has issued a notification in this regard. The notification states that under the powers granted by Article 95(1) of the Constitution, the President has appointed High Court Division Judge Refaat Ahmed as the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. This appointment will take effect from the date of oath-taking.
Earlier, following a student movement, Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan and six other judges resigned. They sent their resignation letters to the Ministry of Law on Saturday night.
The five other resigning judges are Justice M. Enayetur Rahim, Justice Abu Zafar Siddiqui, Justice Jahangir Hossain, Justice Md. Shahinur Islam, and Justice Kashefa Hossain.
