The interim government has canceled the public holiday on August 15, which is observed as National Mourning Day. The decision was made during a meeting held on Tuesday evening, chaired by the head of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

15 August  marks the day when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family were assassinated, a day that has been observed as National Mourning Day in Bangladesh. During the 15 and a half years of the Awami League's rule, this day was a public holiday.

However, since the fall of the Awami League government, there been uncertainty regarding the status of the holiday on August 15. The indication that the current government would not observe the public holiday on August 15 was already apparent by this afternoon.

On Tuesday (August 13) afternoon, an unnamed source from the Ministry of Public Administration hinted that the public holiday on August 15 might be canceled. It was reported that a notification was ready and would be issued as soon as the directive was received.
