"Those who shot from the helicopter and those who gave the orders are all criminals. We, who were involved in this system, are all criminals." This remark was made by the High Court bench led by Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif during a hearing on a petition regarding the helicopter shooting incident during the quota reform movement on Wednesday.
The High Court further stated that the notification of the Judicial Investigation Commission found the protestors guilty. The court has set the order on the petition, seeking an investigation into the matter, for tomorrow, Thursday, August 15.
Earlier, the High Court had set today as the date for hearing the petition filed by Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker. The petition calls for an investigation into the deaths of nine children and demands compensation of 10 million taka for each family. It also stipulates that if any additional child deaths are discovered later, they should also be included under this compensation.
On August 1, Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker filed the petition, compiling parts of various newspaper articles. The petition was first presented to the bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice S.M. Masud Hossain Dolon on August 4, but they declined to hear the case.
On that day, the senior judge of the bench remarked, "Political issues should be settled on the streets." The bench later dismissed the petition directly after the hearing.
