New NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan

Md. Abdur Rahman Khan, the Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Internal Resources Division and the National Board of Revenue (NBR). The Ministry of Public Administration announced this appointment today through a gazette notification, stating that the order will take immediate effect in the public interest.

Earlier today, Wednesday (August 14), the contractual appointment of Senior Secretary Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Muneem as the NBR Chairman was canceled, and Md. Abdur Rahman Khan was appointed as his successor.

Md. Abdur Rahman Khan was born in Lakshmipur district to parents Nurer Rahman Khan and Saleha Khanam. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Accounting from the University of Chittagong and earned a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, and Master's degree in Government Financial Management from Ulster University, UK. Additionally, he completed a Master's-level short course in Public Financial Management: International Public Sector Accounting Standards from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

A 13th batch BCS officer, he joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (Tax) cadre on April 25, 1994, and gained experience working in various levels of tax administration. He has served as Assistant Commissioner (Tax), Deputy Commissioner (Tax), Joint Commissioner (Tax), Deputy Director General of the Tax Inspection Directorate, Director of BCS Tax Academy, and First Secretary of the National Board of Revenue.

Abdur Rahman Khan has also worked on petroleum tax as an International Advisor for the United Nations and as a consultant for the World Bank in East Timor. A professional accountant, he has held long-standing responsibilities as a Council Member, Treasurer, Secretary, and President of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh.
