Since its first detection in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mpox (Monkeypox) has spread to several other countries in Central and Eastern Africa, including Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda, Sweden, Kenya, and Pakistan. In response to the global concerns over the spread of Mpox, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a public health emergency. As a precautionary measure, the Directorate General of Health Services has launched a hotline.

This information was shared in a press release issued by the Health Directorate on Saturday, August 17.

The press release states that Mpox is a contagious disease caused by the Monkeypox virus. Symptoms include painful rashes, swollen lymph nodes, and fever. The virus has spread to many countries worldwide, including the Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya. If you notice any symptoms, have been in contact with an infected person, or have traveled to an affected country within the last 21 days, please call 16263 or 10655.

Meanwhile, the WHO has issued a global health alert regarding the spread of Mpox. The disease is described as a contagious illness with flu-like symptoms, and it can spread through direct contact with an infected person or even through respiratory droplets.
