Dhaka WASA chairman resigns

Prof. Dr. Engineer Sujit Kumar Bala, Chairman of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) Board, has resigned.

The news was confirmed by Dhaka WASA sources on Saturday, August 17. Prior to this, on Thursday, August 15, Prof. Dr. Sujit Kumar Bala submitted his resignation letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. In his resignation letter, he cited health issues as the reason for his departure.

It is reported that Sujit Kumar Bala was a professor at the Institute of Water and Flood Management at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He was appointed as the Chairman of the Dhaka WASA Board under section 7(1) of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority Act, 1996.

According to Dhaka WASA sources, since the change in government, officials and employees at Dhaka WASA had been protesting against Managing Director Taqsem A Khan and other officials involved in corruption. As a result, both the Managing Director and the Board Chairman were compelled to resign.
