Dhaka and 11 cities mayors withdrawn, new adminstrators appointed

Mayors of 12 city corporations, including Dhaka North and South, have been removed from their positions. Administrators have been appointed in their place across all the cities.

On Monday, August 19, the Local Government Division issued two notifications regarding this matter.

The removed mayors include: Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh of Dhaka South City Corporation, Atiqul Islam of Dhaka North City Corporation, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury of Chattogram City Corporation, Talukder Abdul Khaleque of Khulna City Corporation, A.H.M. Khairuzzaman Liton of Rajshahi City Corporation, Abul Khair Abdullah of Barishal City Corporation, Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa of Rangpur City Corporation, Md. Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury of Sylhet City Corporation, Ikramul Haque Titu of Mymensingh City Corporation, Tahsin Bahar Suchana of Cumilla City Corporation, Jayeda Khatun of Gazipur City Corporation, and Selina Hayat Ivy of Narayanganj City Corporation.

Earlier, on Sunday, the Local Government Division had removed 876 public representatives, including 60 District Council chairmen, 493 Upazila chairmen, and 323 municipal mayors.

Additionally, due to a vacancy caused by the death of the Natore District Council chairman, an administrator has been appointed in the 61 now-vacant District Councils.

Separate notifications have also been issued appointing 495 Upazila Executive Officers (UNOs) as administrators of Upazila Parishads. Moreover, seven municipal administrators have been relieved of their duties.
