The High Court on Monday (19 August) ordered authorities concerned to suspend for seven days the broadcasting of private television channel Somoy TV.
A High Court division bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar passed the order after holding hearing on a writ filed by one of the directors of the channel Shampa Rahman in this regard.
Senior jurists Mojibul Haque Bhuiyan and Ahsanul Karim moved the plea before the court, while deputy attorney general Foyej Ahmed stood for the state.
Petitioner's lawyer Ahsanul Karim told The Daily Star that "My client in her plea has said that the Somoy TV was used as a mouthpiece of the previous government.
She pleaded for necessary directions from the court so that the channel runs neutrally."
