After the fall of the Awami League government in the face of mass agitation, the interim government was formed. Dr. After the interim government under the leadership of Muhammad Yunus assumed power, the discussion that is coming up is how long this government will last. In fact, rather than discussing tenure, we should discuss how this government can move forward. Because the new government cannot be given time to remove the mess of the last 15 years. Because starting from the administration to the economy, changes should be made in all areas. And every change should be checked to be correct.
Instead of going into the tenure debate, we should hope to discuss how the current interim government can restore peace and order in the country and establish democracy. To restore the status quo and universal equality, the interim government must adopt a comprehensive strategy that will address the root causes of the recent unrest, ensure political stability and build confidence among the people.
The main objective of the government will be to heal political divisions and promote cooperation between different parties and groups. The government should immediately convene an inclusive national dialogue involving all major political parties, civil society, student leaders and ethnic minorities. This dialogue should focus on developing a political roadmap for free and fair elections.
One of the most important responsibilities is to stabilize the situation in the country and take appropriate steps to prevent further violence. The interim government must ensure that security forces refrain from using lethal force against peaceful protesters. Abuses should be investigated and punished by law enforcement agencies, especially in relation to extrajudicial killings and disappearances. The rule of law and human rights should be prioritized in all areas, so as to build trust between law enforcement and the general public. Police should work to protect people, not suppress them, which will help reduce tensions.
Launch of short-term employment programs—especially targeting the youth, investment in vocational training, microcredit and entrepreneurship schemes, through which the marginalized can benefit. It is important to strengthen the social safety net for those most affected by instability, such as the poor, small business owners and workers in the informal sector. This can include direct cash transfers, food aid and subsidies for essential goods such as food and fuel.
I believe that the main policy of the current government will be to maintain the immediate economic balance with long-term political reforms, to ensure the rule of law and to prioritize all opinions regardless of religion, group, party, going beyond the way force or biased behavior has been practiced against other political parties in Bangladesh.
