On Thursday, August 22, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Kumar Verma, met with Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government. The meeting, held at the State Guest House Jamuna at 4 PM, focused on the ongoing flood situation, its various aspects, and potential measures.
Earlier in the day, during a press briefing in front of the State Guest House Jamuna, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor on Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Water, provided details about the meeting. She stated that discussions covered the types of advance warnings that can be provided for such severe floods, whether any warnings had been given, and what steps nations can take to handle similar situations in the future.
In the briefing, Interim Government Information Advisor Nahid Islam criticized the situation, accusing India of failing to provide advance warning or preparation and opening the dams without notice, which exacerbated the flood situation in Bangladesh. He condemned India for what he described as inhumanity and a lack of cooperation with Bangladesh.
