The Rural Electrification Board, the Power Development Board and the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission are receiving new chairmen amid a widespread reshuffle in the administration.
Army Maj Gen SM Zia-ul-Azim was appointed as the chairman of the Bangladesh REB in a notice from the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday.
The Power Division has appointed Rezaul Karim, a member of the PDB, as its chairman until further notice. He will begin his duties in September. Power Division Engineer Mahbubur Rahman currently holds the position.
Jalal Ahmed has been appointed as the chairman of the BERC, the regulatory body of the power and energy sector. The previous chairman, Nurul Amin, resigned a day ago in the face of protests by other officials of the commission. The new BERC chief was the chairman of Petrobangla from 2007 to 2009.
