Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government, stated that the government was formed in response to the call of students during a national crisis. He remarked, "The decision of when the election will take place is a political one, not ours. The people of the country must decide when they want us to step down."
Dr. Yunus made these comments during a speech to the nation on Sunday, August 25, at 7:30 pm. He further emphasized, "None of us are here to govern the country permanently; we find joy in our respective professions." He noted that the timing of the election will ultimately be determined by the will of the people.
Dr. Yunus took his oath as the Chief Advisor of the interim government on August 8, following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina as Prime Minister on August 5 amidst public protests.
