Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Monday expressed his belief that under the leadership of the interim government, people of Bangladesh will surely overcome the current disaster and rebuild their homes soon.

China is willing to continue providing assistance according to Bangladesh’s needs to help in disaster relief and reconstruction efforts, further consolidating and deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Bangladesh and China, he said.

The envoy met with the Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Professor Dr. M.U. Kabir Chowdhury, at the latter’s headquarters and donated US$ 100,000 on behalf of the Red Cross Society of China to assist flood victims in Bangladesh.

Ambassador Yao Wen observed that Bangladesh has been suffering from a devastating flood, resulting in enormous loss of life and property.

The Chinese government and people are deeply concerned and empathize with the people of Bangladesh, he said.

As a country that also frequently suffers from natural disasters, China extends its sincere sympathies to the interim government and the people of Bangladesh.

“Though disasters are ruthless, people are compassionate. In the face of the floods, the Red Cross Society of China promptly provided humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh,” said the envoy.

Chowdhury said that a friend in need is a friend indeed, and China is a true friend of Bangladesh.

“Whenever the people of Bangladesh face natural disasters, China always extends a helping hand in a timely manner,” he said, adding that the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society sincerely thanks the Red Cross Society of China for its timely and valuable assistance, believing that the aid from China will play a positive role in the flood relief and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas.

Earlier, Ambassador Yao, during a meeting with Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Prof Yunus, donated US$ 20,000 to the Chief Advisor’s Relief and Welfare Fund to support Bangladesh's flood relief efforts.

The Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh donated food, drinking water, and other relief supplies worth Tk 6 million to the severely affected district of Feni to help the local victims through this difficult time.

Chinese enterprises in Bangladesh continue to actively donate money and supplies, fulfilling their social responsibilities, according to the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka.

As of August 25, Chinese enterprises in Bangladesh have donated over Tk 4.13 million to the flood-affected areas and provided supplies worth about Tk 6.19 million, totalling approximately Tk 10.32 million. The Chinese Embassy said donations and contributions are still ongoing.
