Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, received a courtesy call from Syed Ahmed Maroof, the Pakistani High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
The meeting took place on Tuesday, August 27, at the State Guest House, Jamuna.
During the meeting, the Pakistani High Commissioner emphasized the need to revive trade and economic relations, as well as people-to-people contacts between the two countries. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation on multilateral platforms.
Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus called for the revival of SAARC to enhance regional cooperation, aiming to boost economic collaboration in the South Asian region.
He said, "SAARC can be a model of relations like the European Union. We need to work together for mutual benefit."
The Pakistani High Commissioner expressed deep concern on behalf of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the people of Pakistan regarding the devastation caused by the ongoing floods in Bangladesh.
He added that Pakistan is ready to assist Bangladesh in any way possible.
The Pakistani High Commissioner also requested the easing of visa procedures for Pakistani citizens in Bangladesh and the initiation of direct flights between the two countries.
He stressed the need to increase engagement within the existing bilateral framework.
Furthermore, he congratulated Bangladesh on winning its first Test match against Pakistan in Rawalpindi.
