Veteran economist Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya has been officially appointed as the chief of a twelve-member committee entrusted with the duty to publish a white paper on the state of economy.

The office of chief adviser issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday.

The committee would publish a white paper on issues including: the current situation of the national economy in the backdrop of years of volatility, the strategic steps the interim government could take with regards to the economy, and lastly, the measures to take for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) and addressing the challenges Bangladesh would face in the near-future as it transitions from the least developed country (LDC) status.

It is worth noting that Dr Debapriya is a distinguished fellow at Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) and the convenor of the Citizen's Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh.

According to UNB, other members of the committee are:

Professor AK Enamul Haque, dean at Faculty of Business and Economics, East West University

Ferdaus Ara Begum, chief executive officer of Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD)

Imran Matin, executive director at BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University

Dr Kazi Iqbal, senior research fellow at Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS)

Professor Dr M Tamim, from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and former special assistant to the chief advisor (2008)

Professor Dr Mohammad Abu Eusuf, from Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka

Professor Mustafizur Rahman, distinguished fellow at Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD)

Professor Dr Selim Raihan, from Department of Economics, University of Dhaka, and executive director of South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM)

Dr Sharmind Neelormi, professor at Department of Economics, Jahangirnagar University

Dr Tasneem Arefa Siddiqui, former professor at Department of Political Science, University of Dhaka, and founding chair, Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU)

Dr. Zahid Hossain, former lead economist at World Bank and eminent columnist
