Following the ousting of Sheikh Hasina and the subsequent one-point movement for government downfall, several police stations faced attacks, resulting in the looting of arms from various units and duty posts. To recover these stolen weapons, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced a joint operation starting from September 4.

On Sunday, September 1, Faisal Ahmed, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs, confirmed this information through a press release.

The release stated that an operation to recover illegal weapons will commence on September 4, 2024.

Some of the looted firearms and ammunition have already been recovered. Efforts are ongoing to retrieve the remaining looted weapons and ammunition.

Following the formation of the interim government, law enforcement agencies have been urging for the return of looted weapons. The Police Headquarters have warned that legal actions will be taken if these stolen firearms and ammunition are not returned by September 3.

Additionally, earlier the Ministry of Home Affairs had suspended firearm licenses issued to civilians over the past 15 years. A deadline was set for September 3 for the submission of these weapons.
