Mohammad Abdur Rouf, the additional project director (Additional Secretary) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of the company, which operates the metro rail. The Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges has terminated the contractual appointment of the former MD, MAN Siddique.

On Monday, September 9, the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued a notification canceling MAN Siddique’s contractual appointment. Following this, another office order was issued appointing Mohammad Abdur Rouf as the acting MD.

Earlier, on September 7, a report titled “How a retired bureaucrat becomes metro monarch, muddles matters” was published in a national daily, which brought the issue to the attention of the ministry. Subsequently, Siddique's contract was terminated today.

MAN Siddique became the Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges on September 3, 2014, and held the position until October 11, 2017. After retiring, he was appointed as the MD of DMTCL on a contractual basis by the government. He joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration Cadre) in 1983.

Before being appointed as the MD of DMTCL, Abdur Rouf served as the company secretary and was later assigned as the additional project director of MRT 5.
