Thursday (10 October) is the birthday of renowned sculptor Habiba Akhtar Papia. She was born in Kishoreganj on this day in 1977. She obtained a Master's degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University by securing first place with first class.
Sculptor Papia has participated in several solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. Her artworks have attracted special attention in exhibitions held in several countries including Nepal, Malaysia, Bhutan, and Germany. Memories, women's liberation, space and form are among the themes of her sculpture. Her first solo exhibition was organized in 2008 with the title of 'Rejuvenation of Womanhood.'
The exhibition was well acclaimed by the art lovers. The second solo exhibition and symposium 'Sonata of Womanhood' was also recognized as a cross-disciplinary event. Her works in bronze convey to the viewer an artistic interpretation of unspoken words. Rhythm and dynamism are among the hallmarks of her recent work. Her participation in group exhibitions also gained media attention.
Sculptor Habiba Akhtar Papia has sought best wishes from everyone on her birthday and expressed her plan to arrange another solo exhibition on a large scale. Currently, she is an associate professor in a private university. She has been awarded with government and private honors and awards in fine arts. Her artworks have been collected by many collectors in Bangladesh as well as abroad.
